Modern Foreign Languages
Years 7-9
3 languages offered: French, German, Spanish.
The topics covered prepare students for a future languages GCSE. These contain themes such as family and school and culture in Germany, France and Spain in years seven and eight, moving to more in depth topics such as future careers and the environment in year nine. Emphasis is on acquiring key vocabulary, developing listening and speaking skills, and guiding them through GCSE style written tasks.
Years 10-11
3 languages offered: French, German, Spanish.
Languages is optional but recommended, as it helps with entry to University (UCL specify that you need a GCSE language to study there) and broadens future careers options, as employers value languages highly.
Prior knowledge from KS3 is built on and developed in the four skill areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing. These are all equally weighted at GCSE. Bespoke teaching is offered to support students at all skill levels to gain their full potential. After school intervention is also offered.
